she's almost 8 months old, and will not go to sleep without being nursed or held. I am letting her whine and cry and fuss a bit tonight. after a few minutes I will go soothe her but its time to learn to put herself to sleep.

I'm torn on this topic. I let ds cry it out. Now at 5 it takes him hours to fall asleep unless we stay in the room with him. I think with my next one I will cio less. I hated cio but I didnt know any difference then and dh thought it was a good idea. (Shurgs) Good luck.

1 mom liked this

oh my goodness, people, it's just for a few minutes to start getting her used to a little less "immediate" response to fussiness.   It doesn't sound like OP is going to leave her screaming so hard she throws up or for so long she passes out or hyperventilates...

Sheesh...

Mine is 14 months and I am currently rocking her to sleep, lol. I just can't bring myself to let her cry even though I know it needs to be done, an hour of every night spent rocking can be tiring..... Good luck to you and I hope it works ;)

Sucks that your kids do that. I never let my girls cry it out and they are both wonderful sleepers.
