I dislike when a waitress or waiter suggests something to my kids like an expensive drink or just a drink I don't want them to have.
I try to limit surgery drinks so when a server looks at the 3 year old and asks him if he wants a chocolate milk I get a tad irritated at the server.
My kids, thankfully, know better than to throw a temper tantrum when I say no and order a water for them but I still look like the bad guy when had the server been quiet the thought of _____drink would've never crossed their mind.

As a server , no they shouldn't suggest that but I think that is the most common drink kids drink when out. atleast for my job. I don't think they do it to piss off the parents .

Eek! I've never had that happen to me, but it would irritate me too. I had when the grocery store cashier loudly asks if my kids can have lollipops,

They are trained to up sell everything, from drinks, to appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Honestly it is a business, nothing personal. Glad your kids have self control, it is a good place to learn and exercise it.

It doesn't bother me because my kids know that no matter who says what if I say no there is nothing else that needs to be said. They don't whine they don't question me they don't throw fits. Now when my son was about 18 months old I would have killed him. Especially when they would ask if he wants milk which is his favorite thing in the world only problem is restaurants don't serve soy milk.....

Yep, unfortunately anyone in customer service is typically trained in "suggestive selling".

I don't mind. A waiter suggested that once and told her we're lactose intolerant. She suggested apple juice after that.

It's called upselling.
