I hate the sterotypes of Alabama. I love it here and most of these aren't true..in my area. We have Engineers, and Scientists etc.
YEAH!
My uncle lived there for several years...and he's a chemist! His oldest son (my oldest cousin) is studying biochemistry at UA at Birmigham.
I think of my friend, Karen, who lives there.
Also Ft Payne. We stopped overnight there one time and my husband was horrified to discover it is (or was at the time) a dry town. Horrified.

I've lived in AL all my life. Yes, I will admit a lot of people don't know how to speak and write very well, and plenty have a horribly thick accent. This is mostly the middle aged and older people, though.
I don't think it's as racist as other people think here. I've never even witnessed it, and the schools where I grew up were very mixed, and everyone got along.
A lot of people are live and let live, but sure, there are people who are racist and homophobic, but you will find them anywhere.
No, incest isn't out "thing" either! Lol
It isn't anymore as of the last couple of years. Lol. I've never heard of anyone ever even mention Fort Payne on here. I'm surprised.

I just moved to Alabama 6 months ago. While it is beautiful, I haven't really seen much. Just mostly Florence and Athens. And my literally small town that I live in. It's been quite an adjustment from living in the city. But it's growing on me :-)
