"i thought it was a stunt for the movie"

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
I keep hearing this from witnesses in the shooting in Colorado. I'm a little taken back by that comment. I've been to many movies in my life and not once have I seen an actual person come out and do stunts in the theater.
I'm sure it was a shocking thing to see, I'm sure they were having a hard time grasping what was happening, but I just don't think my reaction to a man dressed like that throwing tear gas would be "damn, these stunts are crazy..."
Anyone else think that's odd?
And I'm in no way unsympathetic or anything. I feel for all the victims. Just find that odd.

I didn't wanna say anything, someone might tear me a new one lol

Nobody has brought up the irony of this event. Anybody recall what happened to Batman's parents at the theater?

Batman's parents were killed outside a theater, they were shot.

It seemed insensitive to mention it

I've been known to laugh or smile when people tell me that someone I know/love died. Not because I'm uncaring, unsympathetic or God forbid happy that it happened. Simply because that's the way my brain initially reacts to it, as if it's some kind of sick joke. That being said, I could definitely see someone thinking or reacting in that way if put in a situation as horrifying and devastating as what happened in Colorado.

I don't think my brain would process I'm being shot at right away. I'm a generally calm person so in a situation like that I would totally think stunt for the premier or crazy fan trying to be cool.

There are lots of instances where people dress up to go to a movie and do random things 'in character.' A coworker of mine went to opening night to see The Avengers and said there was a group of people who were all dressed up as each Avenger. It's getting pretty common with superhero/vigilante movies and movies with a huge following (Twilight, Harry Potter, etc).

As for what I would think...I don't know. I hope to God I'm never in that situation.
