OK CAPTAIN MY SPARKLE PENCIL..... You are now in charge of 20 eight year olds. You say... get out your scissors. What do you think is faster? Having those 20 kids pawing through their desks of varying degrees of cleanliness or plunking down the communal bucked and saying, come get a pair"???????
I asked parents to spend an average of less than $2 a month on school supplies. Stop bitching. Want fancy pencils and sharpeners shaped like pikachu? Well there is always homework. Use them at home when you do your assignments. Nobody is saying you cant have a freaking one direction folder. Im just asking you to keep it at home.
No wonder kids are getting harder to manage. Their parents are a bunch of spoiled brats!

I would smack you if you were my kids teacher
Quoting girl_incognito:And go to jail for assault over school supplies?

yeah no. I had my own school supplies when I was a kid, none of the "sharing" supplies crap, and it wasn't an issue in any of the classrooms I was in. I would even share the nice thigns I had with my classmates.
kids are spoiled brats now because people mollycoddle them and make everything "fair" when in reality, nothing is fair. (except the local fair)
Makes sense to me but then again I never really bitched about buying school supplies, I do bitch sometimes about taking my 6yo ds school clothes shopping though, now that sucks!

AMEN! Not only that but the teacher has to hear your kid boohoo when some bratty kid steals that stupid eraser, when the kid cant find it and the teacher has to tell your kid quit playing with pikachu!
Good grief parents are teaching kids to behave as self entitled brats! Their education is FAR more important than having a kitty on their notebook!
I'm guessing because they have to deal with all of those kids.
Why not make it easier?
Quoting manda-nicole010:So, why is it all about what makes the teacher's life easier? I don't see anything wrong with that cute pencil or the decorative folder.
I also don't see anything wrong with expecting your child to use what you paid for rather than some other child paying for it.
I don't get what is the big deal with just keeping your own stuff and expecting other parents to get their kids their own stuff. We never shared in any of the classrooms I was in and there were never any problems.
If parents know its going in the communal pot they should just buy whats on the list the cheapest they can find.
