The abortion proceedure I would have elected would have been an induced labor abortion. They would have given the fetus a shot of digoxin to stop the heart and induced.

Since there was 0% chance of survival, emotionally, I just wanted it all over with; I wanted that closure so I could just move on. The thought of walking around pregnant, knowing that I will never give birth to a live baby, was horrible. I wanted it over with as soon as possible.

I can understand why a woman may choose to carry for as long as possible, but it wasn't for me.

As it turned out, in the 6 days between exams, the fetus died. I was induced a day and a half later. The condition of the body, which began decomposing, was deplorable and extremely traumatic.

I would have greatly preferred to abort before it got to that point.

Don't mean to be insensitive , but why? What's the difference ?

Quoting OregonNative:

I considered abortion at 24 weeks. The fetus was terminal.

It died in utero before all the necessary exams and paperwork was completed and I ended up being induced instead.

I would have preferred the abortion.

Where in the OP was it specified that we were only talking about abortions done for purely elective reasons?

She merely asked if anyone had had one that late and why.

Sorry OP and commenters that we have so many illiterate women here. NOBODY is bashing women who aborted due to medical reasons. Read correctly and stop looking for a reason to argue.

Omfg!!!! Babies are born that early all the time. What a fucking cunt of a "mother", that baby would've easily been adopted and loved :(

Quoting Anonymous:

One of my friends had one at 28 weeks.  She was 19 and her mom basically told her she was having one or they would never support her financially with college or anything.  Her mom took her to Kansas to have it done and they did a partial birth abortion where she had to deliver the head and then they severed the spinal cord with a scissors and then they pulled the rest of the baby out.  It was a boy.

I think your situation may have been different. That sounds like they were trying to save her.... Not that you knew she had a terminal illneds or defect. had u known something wad wrong with your baby..... Would you have let her spend her only time like that? Probably not, she probably would have been with you. Our are you saying you should of had an abortion?

I am not judging anyone. I wad asking a question.

Quoting Anonymous:

Ummm hello you cannot judge until you have been in that situation! I have, I gave birth to my daughter and she suffered HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY for the two days before she died! Being poked and prodded, transferred to hospital after hospital gasping for air, while her mother couldn't even touch her! Handled by dozens of strangers, hooked up to thirty different tubes and needles! Do you think she got to feel my love?

Quoting Anonymous:

Um hello, the mouth is running but the light upstairs isn't... Do u realize what you just said? A baby in pain.... Like you think an abortion wouldn't be painful to a baby? Being torn apart and sucked out!!! At least if a baby is born he/she can feel love from their parents. Be held and comforted. I would rather hold my baby and let him know that I love him, than abort him and he never know I loved him more than anything

Quoting Anonymous:

Have you thought about the pain the baby would be in after birth or the possibly of the baby suffering horribly!

Quoting Anonymous:

Please I am curious, as to why you would not carry to term..... Even if baby wasnt going to survive, having that closure must be easier to deal with then having an abortion. I have never green on that type of situation... I an just assuming. Please don't be offended, I gently am just curious. Ad for not disclosing why..... I'm just curious why not share if you're anon, i'm just curious

Quoting Anonymous:

I am sorry but your statement sounds very insensitive to those that chose to abort for medical reasons. I aborted at 22 weeks for reasons I wish not to disclose. That baby was very wanted and very loved from the moment we found out about him till today-forever. Even though I chose to send him on to the heavenly father I still very much miss him and wish he could be here in my arms. I still have difficulty dealing with it and there are a lot of nights that I cry because what is done can never be undone, but it is what I had to do at that time given my situation. You should chose your words more carefully because they are like a dagger to the heart.

Quoting Beenhereforever:

It makes me fucking sick. that it's even something people would do. I was told at 5 month pregnant that the little boy I was carrying had a genetic defect and probly would not make it.. They asked me if I wanted an abortion. I looked at them like they were aliens. Told them that I would give my baby a chance. He died in my tummy at 9 months along.. But I still had that time with him... Also (I may get bashed for saying this) but I was 15 years old at the time... But even at that age I knew better than to kill a baby . Why not give it up at a safe place or adoption...

Quoting JDmommyJD:

ย This.

Curious WHY? Who ponders that kind of thing????

Quoting Beenhereforever:

Fuck no. fuck.

Quoting MrsJHoward:

Um no! I didn't think they did them past 9 wks unless there was a medical reason....

As I understand it, it's legal to have them done up to 24 weeks (which is stupid since babies are being born at 23 and 24 weeks and living so they ARE viable at that point) but most places won't do them after the first trimester or soon after.

for a month I dated a rich married man and he paid me for it through money and gifts so yes I was a prostitute, a murdererer and a potential homewrecker. That was a lifetime ago and I have paid for tthose wrong decisions. I am finely able to be honest with myself and raw about it. I have also forgiven myself and God has forgiven me. I am being given a second chance that I dont deserve and I am so very grateful for it.

Quoting Anonymous:

Sorry, what is a "trick baby"? Do U mean you're a prostitute?

Quoting Anonymous:

I had one at 15 weeks. It was awful and I felt a horrible sense of loss. It was a trick baby and I felt bad but I couldn't keep it as the father was married and he paid for it.

I have read all the replies. Perhaps I missed where the OP clarified that she was talking about abortions done "for the hell of it."

So ๐Ÿ‘ right back at ya'.

It is still considered legal in certain states and certain stipulations may apply.

Quoting lilfishbigocean:

I don't know much about it all, but isn't 19-21 weeks a little too far along?
