We've homeschooled, because of the economy I have to go back to work.

We are enrolling our kids in Elementary school this year. We've toured the school, talked to the vice-principal and all of that. They love the school and I don't hate it.

Make me feel better, tell me the things you love about your childs public school!!

My boys go to a small town public school. It is not evil or horrid. The principal knows my kids names, not because they are always in trouble but because he makes it a point to know all the children in the school. I have never had any issues at our school and love it. It will be OK and your kids will make lots of friends.

My DD just fniished 5th grade at a great public elementary school outside of Atlanta and will begin middle school next year.  I can tellyou that almost every 5th grader teared up when they were making their final walk trhough the halls of the school after graduation.    The school was small (500 kids K-5), so her classes were small, usually less than 20 kids.   The teachers cared and made extra efforts if someone was struggling. We have a very strong Asst Principal who put a stop to any type of bullying.   all of the kids seemed to take alot of pride in the school and alot parents were active in the PTA and classroom.    I know there is alot of noise about how bad public schools are, but there are some wonderful schools, teachers and admins out there.   Best wishes for a great schoolyear!

Oh I understand. Our area requires/allows far too much district involvment for my taste; I've heart, though, that some states are better than others about that.

It wasn't really my first choice, but it was the only way that my  hubby would allow me to homeschool the kids. I find it's the lesser of the 2 evils. They are still home w/me all day & i know w/Connections i'm still involved w/their learning. It's a better alternitive to them being in a b.m. school.

Quoting AutymsMommy:

Same question, but a different route - I would never consider K12 or connections (just a personal choice).

However, if affording homeschooling curriculum is the problem, I would be happy to pick up some used curricula when I see it up for sale on the WTM Boards for you and send it your way.

Is paying for hs a majority of your prob? The reason i ask is we went the free hs route. It's the online public school that you do at home. There's the K12 but we use Connections Academy.

 I won't use the public school system.......BUMP!

We looked into Montessori but we can't afford it and we can't afford for me to continue to homeschool. I'm trying to make the best out of a not ideal situation.

I am a Home Schooling, Vaccinating, Non spanking, Nightmare Cuddling, Dessert Giving, Bedtime Kissing, Book Reading, Academic pushing Mother. I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities and nosey, involved parents. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child. I believe that my place, as a woman, is in the home caring for my husband and children. My husband is head of our home.             Aimee

We homeschooled too and now my son is in public school. I had to stop homeschooling because I had just given birth to my daughter and also had my 18 month old to care for.

My soon to be 3rd grader, likes it fine. He enjoys eating lunch in the cafeteria, recess, science, and the school events like the back to school bash, Thanksgiving feast and sock hop.

they have a lot of fun, but learn too. Ds is in first grade this year and his teacher is a very out of the box thinker :) she says sometimes they learn better if they can fidget stand etc, so that's what she lets them do. The principal is like that too. on field days she is out there with water balloons just like every one else. of course its not all play all the time, but its not sit in your desk and be quiet all day either. The do plenty of hands on activities and each class has a reading group based on their levels. Everyone is encouraged to learn, but not given anything too hard either. Ds goes to a city school, which in my area is better ( in the primary grades) then county schools. i hope to change districts before ds starts in the higher grades though.

My kids will be going back to a school I loved, they went for a year but we moved... ended up back in the district for this upcoming year. I love the teachers they had, and my most important thing is COMMUNICATION. They were willing to communicate with me. It is in a lower income area so there are a lot more programs for helping kids out with tutoring and such.

i understand how you feel.. look up the school on google see what kind of scores they have and where they fall behind on.. like my daughter;s school falls back on reading. so we do more reading at home along with other things.. she is in a spanish immersion program and let me tell you last year was her first year of school she went in knowing alot of stuff and when the school ended she knew alot more.. she can talk to other kids that don't know English. they make friends.. I walk her in to school everyday and talk with the teacher about how she is doing and if needs help on something we work extra on it at home.. i was afraid just like you but soo far it is the best thing i have done for my daughter.. i have also joined the pta.

No. We don't spend a lot on homeschooling, it is making ends meet. We are just having too hard of a time making it on my husbands paycheck alone. Everything is going up and it gets harder every year. We are hoping to be back in a better position by the time they are out of elementary school, so we can pull them back out.

Can you work nights instead?

No. Then I would never see my husband, it would put to much of a strain on our marriage and that is just as important as our schooling choice.
