No doubt it was a scam, why else would it have been deleted? Why should someone pay money to make money?

I usually miss the good stuff but there was a post by some woman spamming the group with a pyramid scam going around trying to lure in other suckers.

Yeah thats the one. Total BS it was. It suspiciously went poof after the reply that the company wasn't acredited with the BBB like the OP said it was.
