My 17 and 9 year old half brothers are coming to live with us for a few months. The only issue is, we don't have bedrooms for them. Our two kids rooms already have our son and my 13 year old sister in them and they are two small to put two beds in, so we can't have my son and sister share and put the boys in the other one. We originally were going to put them in the living room, but I just don't like them having to sleep on air mattresses for over two months and not having their own space to really feel at home in. Plus, since our house is so small light and sound carries, after our four year old goes to bed no lights can be on in the living room or it shines right into his bedroom and no one can speak above a whisper or it keeps him up, so that wouldn't be much fun for them. So we thought of one other idea, putting them in the attic. We have an unfinished attic, so no carpetting, wood floors, no paint or dry wall, but its insulated, so they would be okay once it gets colder again, they would be able to have their own space to put posters up and put their stuff around in and they could have real beds, theres boxes and things up there but we could move those to the basement. I have two concerns though, it is unfinished, I just don't want them to feel like second class kids being stuck in the attic and there are no stairs, its the kind of attic where you pull down a string from the ceiling and steps pull down, and I feel nervous about having a nine year old climb up and down those on his own, especially at night if he needs the bathroom or something. What would you do?
Also, their mother is signing temporary guardianship over to us while they are with us, in case we need to take them to a doctor or something or if we need to sign something for school, would them not having a proper room cause an issue with us getting guardianship?
This isn't our attic, but its what it looks like:
