I believe being Gay is a sin

First off, I am a Christian and a sinner. Homosexuality is one of a multitude of sins mentioned in the bible. No one of them is less a sin than any other. I alone will have to answer for mine and I will have a lot of explaining to do, believe me. Others' sins are between them and God and not my concern. Secondly, freedom of religion is also freedom from religion. Many of our ancesters came here from countries with a state mandated formal religion. My ancestors, catholics, were forced to pay heavy penalties for not attending the Church of England until they had lost everything and had no other option but to flee to America. Finally, marriage, a committed relationship between a man and a woman. What's the primary concept here? Man and woman? I think not. It's committed relationship. I do not understand how gay marriage would undermine the sanctity of marriage as long as they are committed to each other. What is undermining marriage is people who lack the commitment to each other and are ready to bail at the first sign of trouble or someone else catches their eye.

Yes whatever you make it today or define it as it's a religious symbol. Our country has kind of messed the legal and religious into something else but the word marriage, the ceremony that everyone has is rooted in religoin. You don't have to be religious or say anything religious at it but it's still a religious ceremony at it's core.
Wow. I don't know where to start. I will try to be succinct.
There can be both. People CAN have freedom FROM religion. Atheists aren't forced to be religious. No one is forced to be religious. No one forced me to be a Christian.
Marriage is also a legal contract. It is not just a religious ceremony in America. People must be able to enter into a legal contract and that takes certain components. My 11 year old is baptized (that's a religious ceremony). He can't get married (that is a religious ceremony AND a legal contract).
So are you saying that gays can't participate in a religious ceremony such as marriage (if indeed marriage were only a religious ceremony)?
Civil Rights ARE civil rights. Should we start denying those of different faiths the rights to practice their tenents simply because we might find it disagreeable? What about voodoo? I don't like sacrificing chickens - but if they bought it and it isn't MY yard, well it isn't MY business. Well, it's not my house...it's not my bedroom. Their relationship isn't MY business. It's not yours either.
It IS civil rights. EVERYONE is too broad of a word. Do you personally KNOW everyone? That's like saying everyone in China makes clothing. I would need to personally know every person IN China to make that statement. It's not only improbable BUT IMPOSSIBLE. Don't use that word when trying to conceive a logical argument. It stinks of irrational thought.
Yes, do YOUR research on what it means to deal with a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE.
By the way - hey did you KNOW that if someone is a drug addict or an alcoholic and you hire them, you might have one HELL of a time firing them under the ADA 1990 because they are considered disabled under FEDERAL law?
Take that UP instead of worrying about someone's PERSONAL bedroom life that won't affect the work place.

It's not freedom from religion it's freedom of religion, two very different things. There can never be both. Second marriage is a religious ceremony, always has been, not a committed relationship. Homosexuals are underminding society by throwing themselves onto religion with a civil rights movement. Requiring regious leader to preform marriages in their churches to people their religions say engage in unaceeptable behavior. They are raring apart the fabric of society because their too lazy or stupid to file the correct paperwork to obtain all the rights as married people with just a little more work. They should be fighting for married people to have to file all the paperwork not to get married themselves. Civil rights when it's not civil right hurts everyone, do your research and education yourself on what it means to win a civil rights issue.

Quoting Ivory_Mom1:I don't believe in sin, but I do agree that saying gays can't get married is just ridiculous. Many gay people have relationships that have lasted as long as straight ones. The whole argument is beyond ridiculous at this point.
congratulations on being the first person to read the post.
Exactly. If a heterosexual marriage is in trouble, a gay marriage isn't going to strengthen or weaken it anymore than the state it is already in....
Quoting ittybit2012:No, homosexuals are not undermining society. Intolerance undermines society. Two men or two women getting married doesn't negatively impact me or mine. How does gay marriage hurt everyone?
