Marriage is a religious union. why would someome who doesnt believe or follow a religion want to take part in a religious act..just because you dont want to be left out of anything!?. i would never,ever want to take part in a religion or belief that i didnt believe in or was outside my faith. besides the benefit of health insurance im not sure why you would want to take part in something you dont believe in. its like a bunch of 5 year olds stomping their feet and pitching a fit because Johnny has carrot cake and you dont. you hate carrot cake but my goodness if he has it, then i should too!

im fully aware that atheist and homosexuals do not marry for a religious purpose and thats my point. You HATE anything that has to do religion and Morals but you Choose this one part of religion to participate in and twist it to a "legal contract" which is why there is such a high divorce rate. American history was based on God and Christianity and when God began to be taken out of it, our country went to hell and its only going to get worse. our children are going to suffer for our sinful and immoral ways

Edit #2 Just read an awesome reply that stated homosexuals & atheist if they so choose should be granted a "civil partnership" and not called a marriage, giving them every legal right as a married couple without disrepecting the sanctity of marriage.and not forcing the church to perform these legal unions.i think most christians would agree its not the legal rights we dont want them to have, its feeling that a prescious part of our beliefs are being grossly disrepected

yes, health insureance is part if it, but it's also about a person having rights to make end of life decisions for thier life-partner... and about being able to inherit... and about being able to have a family together... and having rights to the children they support and raise... and the many, many other rights that married people have...

it's never been about having what the religious have, it's about the right to be treated like any other human being under the law, as opposed to being treated like a pariah because of a basic, inborn difference
