None of the gay people I know expect a cupcake party, but they would like to see an end to people losing their lives because of who they love.  They would like to see an end to young gay and lesbian men and women taking their own lives because of bullying and abuse from those who don't agree with their "lifestyle".  They're not having a tantrum, they simply want the right to love and marry who they choose.

I'm not a lesbian, but it is NONE of my damn business what consenting adults do in their bedroom. I've got a lot of gay and lesbian friends and none of them have ever made me uncomfortable--and they're obviously not "contagious" or trying to "convert." Even if I didn't have those friends who are totally awesome, I would be voting to support the new Maryland law to allow gay marriage, which is on the ballot this November!

Well that's a blanket generalization if I ever heard one.  I don't know a single homosexual person IRL who is disrespectful, demanding or looking for a fight.  They are very much like the straight couples I know:  educated, white-collar professionals who are active in their communities and simply want to live their lives.

Society as a whole doesn't hate you. Don't speak for everyone. There are those who disagree with your lifestyle and that is their opinion. And the are entitled to that right. As for those who HATE...we'll never understand it. The best thing to do is NOT try to figure it out. Let them be who they are, and you continue to be yourself :-)
