And why is it that whenever someone posts that they have, like, $25 for food for the next week so many people suggest buying it?

I don't get it. It's gross and not cheap and certainly not cheaper than making pancakes from scratch. Seriously, I don't get it.

Do people just not know how to make pancakes??

EDIT: Sorry, I assumed that items like flour, baking soda, sugar and milk were staples in most homes. Apparently they're not. My bad.

One day I *needed* to have pancakes, I was out of mix :( but allrecipes.com and fluffy buttermilk pancakes have changed my views, no more mix!

The kind you just add water to is great for camping.

Here's a few recipes:

1 cup flour
1 TBS baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 TBS sugar
2/3 cup milk
2 TBS melted butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg

1 cup flour
1 TBS baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 TBS sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup milk
2 TBS vegetable oil

1 cup flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk (dairy, soy, nut, any kind)
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 TBS agave nectar or honey
2 TBS canola oil

The method for all is to mix the dry ingredients in a bowl, then mix all the wet ingredients together in a separate container (like a large glass measuring cup) then add the wet to the dry and whisk until just combined.

Pretty simple stuff. A batch (12) costs about $0.50.

ROFL @ the idea of making pancakes at home. Yeah, no, not this mama. The closest we get here are bags of frozen silver dollar pancakes from Wal*Mart VERY occasionally, like twice in three years, LOL.

Easy Homemade Pancake Recipe

This easy homemade pancake recipe lets you skip the wait at the local breakfast place, throw away those overpriced boxed mixes and cook a delicious breakfast at home in just minutes.

Homemade from scratch pancakes are even tastier than store bought mixes and there are tons of variations you can try.

Don't limit your pancakes to leasurily weekend mornings.

They make a quick dinner in a pinch and can be cooked in bulk and frozen ahead for breakfast on hectic mornings.

Easy homemade pancakes are good for more than just breakfast.

Easy Homemade Pancake Recipe

  • 1 ½ cup flour
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ -1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 eggs

Mix together the dry ingredients. Add the eggs and milk to the bowl and combine. The batter does not need to be perfectly smooth.

Preheat a skillet or griddle to medium heat (350F on the griddle). Grease with butter and use a ladle to pour evenly sized pancakes.

Serve them warm with butter, syrup, whipped cream and fruit.

This recipe makes about a dozen medium sized pancakes.

The secret to perfectly cooked pancakes?

Don’t just flip because of the bubbles, wait until the sides of the pancake start to cook. When you see that you know the pancakes are 75% done and it’s time to flip and just brown the second side.

How Can I Make This Healthier

Substitute some wheat flour in. Start slowly as your family gets used to the taste and texture of the wheat flour.

Cook your pancakes in real butter instead of margarine or cooking sprays. Butter adds great flavor too.

What Other Variations Can I Try?

Add some vanilla extra or coffee to your batter for extra flavor.

Add fruit such as blueberries, pumpkin, banana, apple or strawberry to your batter.

Chocolate chip pancakes are great because they are sweet enough you don’t need syrup, but you might want some anyway.

    Or make waffles.

    To Freeze Pancakes

Double this easy homemade pancake recipe and freeze the leftovers.

Let pancakes cool to at least room temperature first.

Layer a sheet of waxed or parchement paper between each of the pancakes so they don't freeze together. (Or flash freeze them.)

Then put the pancakes into a freezer quality container, I recommend a freezer bag. And add them to your inventory sheet.

Freeze pancakes for up to three months.

    To reheat pancakes

Reheat frozen pancakes in the microwave. Try not to stack them and flip once while reheat; times vary based on your microwave.

Frozen pancakes can also be left out to thaw at room temperature.

I agree.  I spent my childhood life making everything from scratch.  Except for obvious exceptions, I am SO over it.

I buy the box kind, It's faster. When women made everything from scratch they also spent most of their days In the kitchen, I want to spend mine with my kids.

Quoting Tal0n:

You don't add baking powder?  Eggs?  They must be heavy as hell.

Quoting DeeVahDee:

Sugar, flour and water. Lol sometimes add bananas. That's how I was raised to make it and that's how I will continue to
