When you ask a homeschooling mom the ever popular question, "What about socialization?" and she has a well-thought out explanation ready for you, or even seems slightly defensive or annoyed, it's most likely because she has been asked that very same question at least a hundred times!! Homeschooling does NOT mean we keep our kids chained to a desk in a windowless room 24/7, although I have contemplated doing this on many occasions, LOL! It also doesn't mean that our children are social morons, who don't know how to talk to people and don't have any friends. Homeschooling is legal in every state and it's not some mysterious, secretive thing that only people who live in a cult compound do. It is simply another option for education, nothing more, nothing less.
Let me also say that we don't appreciate you (general you) drilling our kids on multiplication facts or history dates because you want to make sure they are being educated properly. My kids are just like most kids who go to public school, and don't enjoy being asked to spout off answers or recite the Gettysburg Address at random times during a shopping trip or a family function.
