When I get fs I am going to dress "poor" when I go to the store.

Dh has a job, but between school, bills, and some debt we've raked up we have decided we could use the help of food stamps. That way we can channel extra money into paying off our debt. The collectors have been calling nonstop, it just needs to be done. We have been doing a lot of budgeting and we think it can be done within a 1-2 years.

Anyways what I mean by dressing "poor" I don't want to be judged for having nice things and being on food stamps. I have name brand clothes, and designer shoes, purses ect. All of which I got myself when I was in college and single. After reading all the fs posts on this site makes me want to go to walmart in the cheapest shorts and tanktop I own. Just embarrassed to have to use fs in general. *SIGH* it's temporary and it will help our family while we get our debt in control.

If you qualify whatever, but fs are supposed to be used for emergencies. Fs wernt created to help people get out of debt because they bought designer purses and shoes in college.

Sounds good.  But, I'd leave the wedding ring on unless you want some really dirty looks.  Speaking from personal experience of being on WIC.

you shouldn't have used credit cards if you couldn't afford them.  it's not like your situation changed because someone lost a job.. you just didn't budget well.

Oh, and I would recommend telling bill collectors that they have the wrong number.  Then, block their numbers by pushing *60 on your home phone or logging into your cellphone companies site to block them.  Also, if you write them and tell them that they can only contact you by mail, they can legally no longer call you.

Why don't you sell the items and use that money to pay off your debt quicker?

I've never used credit cards, no where does it say that. Our debt is from my husbands school loans.

I would think it would be funner to do the opposite. Wear all your brand items, especially purse. If you don't have an Iphone, borrow one. Talk on it while checking out. Ask how much Lobster is.

The purses didn't get me in debt, school loans did.
