Photosynthesis and melanin

Me and a friend were debating he says melanin comes from photosynthesis I said no photosynthesis is all about light energy being converted to chymical energy from the sun .... For I stance that's how plants get there food and melanin is just the pigment in your skin and has to do with DNA what do you think

This sums it up for me.

Melanin absorbs energy. Photosyntheis absorbs it and converts it INTO energy.
