Would you still love AND support your child if they committed a mass murder?

News articles are claiming James Holmes' family's attorney spoke on their behalf stating they "plan to stand behind their son. He's their son."
Hmmm I'm not sure what to think about this. When this went down I considered them victims as well. I can't imagine what it would be like to find out your child/brother did something so horrific. But I'm a little confused by this claim. I think of my love for my children as unconditional. Would I still love them even if they killed someone? Probably. Would I still love them if they killed 12 people and seriously injured 50 plus others? Mm I kind of think I might not. I think in a situation like that I'd disconnect myself from them and not view them as my child anymore but instead as a monster. I think I might miss and mourn the child I ONCE had but not be able to continue with a relationship between us. I can't get my mind around "standing behind" someone who ruined so many other people's lives. What are they "supporting" exactly? I think he crossed line from human to monster and so his need to feel supported no longer exists.
What do you think you would do?

Loving your children is one thing. It would greatly depend on what they did.
I honestly would be more likely to walk away if they killed someone for a reason...
Honestly what he did was so fucking out there I would think my child had something wrong with them and it would be hard to just walk away from them.

I agree with you.
I would still love them in a way, but could never look at them the same.

There's no way. I love my child too much to let their mental state deteriorate to what that man's was like and not do something.
