My sister invited my family out to McDonalds earlier this evening. We went, the kids had a happy meal and then played in the play place.
While we were sitting inside employees started gathering at the outside front of the store to smoke and eat food from the store. Right out front. In front of everyone. At one point 4 employees where outside carrying on and only 2 (from what we could see) were inside. The guy doing drive thru orders was even taking them from out there.
Now, we don't do fast food often, so maybe i'm ignorant, but is this normal these days? When I worked outside the home (8 years ago) we were never allowed to let the costumers see us smoke, eat, drink, chit-chat...we had to go around back or to a private area.

It's more and more normal now. FF joints, as far as I know, don't have an actual break room.
I'm just ticked that there are laws against smoking less than 10 feet from the door and people STILL do it.
I'm allergic to it and I know others that are so allergic to it they have trouble breathing. It ticks me off!
Yes, but not allergic(or airway constricted) enough to hinder anyone from continuing to walk their big asses right inside to polish off a big mac and a large fry-Gimme a Break!
I was very pleasant to them and gave them respect. When the girl working accidentally gave us 2 5s as change instead of 2 1s I told her right away. I'm not judging them as people. I'm more so judging McDonalds for not providing them a break area where they are not up front for everyone to stare at while eating.

This post actually makes me feel kinda sad. I mean, shit, not ony are you working at McDonald's and probably breaking even on your smokes and transportation, but any damn person wth a dollar and six cents can enter your establishment, demand great service and courtesy with little or no respect being reciprocated to begin with, and on top of all of that, now the same customer with a dollar six feels you should be locked in a dungeon somewhere so that you may destroy your heath where it will not offend.
I will say this though-If we got as offended and concerned about rapists, murderers, wife-beaters, child molesters, and perpetuators of injustice as we do fat people, poor people and tobacco smokers , I bet we might actually stop declining as a society quite so quickly.

That part bothered me too. My son has a lung disease (Alpha-1) and I don't like going through the smoke maze outside stores to get him in.
At least at Wendys (here at least) they smoke and carryon out back between the store and the drive thru. I see them all the time when I go through the bank.
when I worked in fast food and was just an employee. we had no choice but to sit out where the customers are. or you go out to smoke etc. you wear a sweater or light jacket. maybe they were working on there back room or wanted to enjoy outside. they are on their own time(most likely if they were outside eating.) what they cant enjoy themselves on their break. and if they want to converse, eat or smoke on their break its trashy? not in my opinion.
I was at a Greek place with the same sister last week and this lady was sitting down eating her food. We waited at the door to be sat. She kept eating and took some pita (for herself) in her hand as she walked over to us. We looked at each other and decided to leave. I dunno. I feel bad for people not getting breaks or whatever but I don't think it's right to just have costumers watch you eat. I dunno.

That reminds me of when I was at Subway last week. I walked in and the girl was standing behind the counter eating a sub... right out in the open. I was thinking like... wtf. lol
Where do you people live that people seem so "rude"? Lol, when I worked at McD's we would smoke near the freezer door in the back or go sit on the grass. Anyway, I don't think it's trashy. They are just trying to get through the day. Also, if you didn't like it, why not ask them to move or complain? I'm sure they would have done it. Most smokers are not assholes.
