good age for pocket knife?

the shooting range post reminded me of a question i had earlier. what's a good age for little boys to get their first pocket knife?? what's typical in your area??

if my son were more his age developmentally i would give him one now at age 9, teaching him how to care for it and respect it of course.

My boys got their's when they were about eight or so. maybe a bit younger?

I'm thinking id let him get one around age 9-10. So and I have already discussed having both children take gun safety courses around age 12.
