Toddler Sleep aid-have u ever?-

I am curious::: have any of u EVER given your toddler a small amount of toddler night time cold medicine or pm cough med or children allergy med when they did not have a cold/cough/allergies just so they (and you!!!) could get a full peaceful nights sleep??? I know a relative that does this occasionally and I told a friend and she said "I've done it" so I'm wondering if anyone else has? Sounds tempting to me especially on those long stressful days when they fight me at bedtime,"here honey have a sip of your medicine" a harmless way to have a guaranteed 8hours of quiet and u know once they take their medicine that in about 1/2 hour they will be drowsy??? Haven't done it myself,I'm not 100% against it if it truly is OCCASIONALLY but I'm not 100% for it either so I wanted to know what u all think pls!!

No way! My mom suggested I give my sd (2) some benedryl for our car rides home when I pick her up. I said hell no! I have given pain meds if the girls have a bad cold or a tooth coming in so they can sleep better but normally they don't get anything.

i've given my son benadryl when he was anxious before. only once or twice. I've actually given it to my dog for the same reason.

Same here or per doctors orders when she starts to have a panic attack at night and for her allergies.

never

My daughter has only had tylenol/motrin once and that's because she had a high fever the ER could barely get to break.  Other than that she has had antibiotics 3 times in her life (staph infection, tooth infection above the nerve, and pnemonia).

No other even OTC drugs and she is 2 years 4 months.  I don't give them unless absolutely necessary.

Nope, but I have given dd melatonin, only 1mg. Not very often though, she's a pretty decent sleeper.

I joke about it a lot, but never really have.  He only gets meds when he is sick and needs them to get better.

never ever.  i would NEVER medicate my child if not required.

i honesetly think that this is the lazy way out.  children need a firm bedtime and bedtime rules to abide by; not to be drugged to go to sleep.  the parents need to fix the issue - whether that be lax bedtime rules (or no bedtime rules), helping the child sleep better on their own etc.  if they think their child has sleep disturbances, they should take the child to a sleep clinic or specialist and have them run some tests to find a diagnosis.
