Last Night Was Awful *long*

Im sitting here, still shaken up, my kids are playing but I'm just numb. Yesterday was supposed to be a great day, my best friend, her husband and their eight-week-old son were coming to visit. We now live 15 hours from each other and his grandma lives two hours from us. Everything was going great, we put our kids to bed and my bff and I opened a bottle of wine. We were catching up, the guys inside playing Call of Duty and having a beer. Seemed normal.

I honestly have no clue what exactly happened, I had gone inside to check on the kids, dh was in the bathroom. All we hear next is her (my bff) screaming, her dh was shouting. Dh & I ran in at the same time, her husband was over her, beating her with the PS3 remote. Shouting horrific, derogatory names. My hubby tries to get him off while I call 911. He shoved my husband back into our entertainment center, his elbow went through the glass.

Cops arrived as did paramedics. My poor, sweet bff she decided to press charges, I know that had to be difficult. She has a broken eye socket, busted lip but otherwise she is alright physically. My hubby had to get a few stitches. She is staying with us for now, he's in jail and she is in the process of getting a protection order for her and their son. Please pray for them

ow, shit, broken eye sockets are the worst from what I hear, often requiring surgery to fix! That poor woman

Thank God you all were there

How traumatizing!

I'm glad she pressed charges and had a place to stay, and that the bastard didn't get a chance to beat the kid too.  But yeah- I would be a mess.  You may just need a few days to process it, you may need a counselor to help you for a bit.  Witnessing violence can really mess you up.

I think your DH should press charges too, in case she drops hers (battered women usually do, at least the first few times).  Do everything you can to keep that guy locked up, he sounds very dangerous.

oh my gosh! did he just snap or has that kind of thing happened before? Imagined what he would have done had you guys not been there? THAT is scary!

WTF? Psycho much? I seriously hope she doesn't go back to him.

How long has your friend been putting up with this? I would bet the bank that it's been a long time if he had the balls to do that in a setting where other adults were. Abuse starts small and escalates. She's been getting her ass beat for a while now.

Glad she has enough sense to press charges. Many women don't.

What you need to do as a friend though is help her to remember she needs to STICK to these charges. Not drop them or forgive him. Help her to move on and never look back. Remind her constantly why she left and why going back isn't a good idea if you have to.

Oh my goodness. I hope your DH and best friend get better. That sounds terrifying. Thank God she is staying with you and is safe. I hope she gets the Protection Order against him.

We saw nothing that would indicate he was violent. They've been married for six almost seven years. She did tell me last night it happened before, about a year ago and a few times way back.
