Poor lady, I would freak out

I was talking to a lady today. She is in her very late 40's. She said she has been going through menopause for several years. Her doctor told her that once she hit 12 months with no period, that means it was over.

So, some months went by and she was counting them...1...2...3...4

Then she was at work one day and ...

A baby started kicking!

She is pregnant and not even for sure how far. She said that her doctor told her that with the stage of menopause that she was in that she would only be able to get pregnant with fertility drugs or donor eggs. Wrong!

I'm also an AMA "Advanced Maternal Age" mother.

My doctor told me I was nuts to try for another one at my age.  She said it would take months, if not a full year, and even then might need fertility drugs.

One month later, I was preggers!

I am happy and a bit cautious for your friend.  I understand how hard it can be on an older mama's body to handle all of the late night feedings and early mornings.  :(

that whole AMA stuff is nonsense.  how do I suddenly become high risk just because I had a birthday?  ridiculous.
