Im not talking about those 5 min you have to leave the room to cool off, im not talking those times where you are on the toilet, im talking about the CIO method. Babies NEED your affection and comfort! Once they are older it may be different but NEVER let NEWBORN cry it out!

ETA: Not talking about kids over a year! Im mostly talking about newborns. I know a few moms who let their kids scream all night for selfish reasons. They are negligent in other ways as well, but this pisses me off the most. Only because they make it my buisness by TELLING ME ALLLLL ABOUT IT... :(

It's cute how now you are backpedaling that you only mean kids under 1,  and it doesn't strike a chord with me at all my youngest is already 18 months so I goes by your "expert" standards it's ok if I let her fuss a little!  It is obvious that you are the one that knows nothing about CIO!  And if crying all the time causes brain damage why are all the kids that had colic not drooling morons right now answer that one for me ms. expert!

Quoting Anonymous:

then go mind YOUR own buisness if you are all against busy bodies. Its not BS, and idc what you think really. I think CIO under a year is BS and negligence. That is my opinion. SO what if i care, im not calling CPS, it just makes me angry. Doesnt affect you much unless you get all worked up about it, which you clearly are doing... so i think i struck a chord. CIO is a parenting method that should have rules to follow. The people im talking about dont follow those rules. Yes it is cruel to let a little baby scream for hours. Yes it could damage brain cells to scream like that for that long. AAP Has done studies to prove that.

Quoting Anonymous:

It is not negligence it is just a parenting method that you don't agree with  and you trying to compare CIO to a child be left in a car is stupid!  You being a busybody and worrying about someone else letting their child cry will never save someone's life!  And I think the story about your mom is total bs!

Quoting Anonymous:

babies are. you just dont like being told that something you do is negligence, I have no problem taking care of my infant. Ive never let him CIO and he sleeps through the night now.

You wont be cursing the mother who cant mind her own buisness if it saves your kids life one day. What would the world be like if no one actually cared? A lot worse than it is now. My mother had to break in someones window for leaving a baby in a sweltering car at a grocery store. no charges were pressed, the kid was saved. All because my "nosy" mom couldnt mind her own buisness.

Quoting Anonymous:

I feel sorry for kids whose parents can't mind their own business and just take care of their own children! And your picture is ridiculous,  when I cry I don't want someone to come comfort me I WANT to be left alone not everyone is clingy!

Quoting Anonymous:

so im not allowed to care? that seems silly, if it was a post about a person hitting their child, or leaving them in dirty diapers for hours you probably wouldnt have said that. Read the picture! I feel sorry for those babies!

Quoting Anonymous:

This really can't be said enough, if YOU don't like the CIO method then don't use it,  if someone else wants to it's none of your business!

No, no they don't that is an adult mind making the choice to put that personal thought in your own head ...

Babies can't tell you what they think or feel or they wouldn't be crying .....

Crying is a way to express feelings, that doesn't mean they NEED someone its their only form of expression till they get older and stopping that because you are not ok with it is YOUR CHOICE

Don't push your personal bullshit on me, My family or choices

Quoting Anonymous:

as an adult/older child you are mentally capable of rationing with yourself. You know what is going on at least. You arent crying, hoping mommy will come and help you feel better! babies need their parents to help them get over whatever it is that is going on with them. They could be scared, hurting, hungry, even overtired. They still need your help! If you dont help them, what is it that they feel? more scared, hurt, alone.....

Quoting Anonymous:

Oh and I have cried that hard and guess what stillllll here. Not dead

Did you know letting them CIO is good for there lungs? I'm not saying anyone should let there child cry for hours.. But 10-15 mins I don't know where your from but most doctors say to let them cry some so they can learn to Comfort themselves!!

First CIO means "Crying it out" in a bedroom alone? How is that good for anyone or any body part?

and to say that "Crying is good for their lungs" is not right either, when they are first born and have some fluid it's good for them to come out of the womb crying, but anytime after that crying does nothing for their lungs.

And a baby should never have to learn to "Comfort themselves in my opinion"

Weird. Several people have told me that and that they need it for their lungs. I have never let either of my kids fuss much though...I prefer to comfort them.

Quoting Anonymous:

OMG no lol! that is misinformation, babies can fuss for about 15 min or so, they need to self soothe at some point, but screaming for hours has been proven to kill off brain cells by the APA in multiple studies.

Quoting Devious333:

I've been told that they need like 2 hours a day total.

Crying isn't "good for baby's lungs." One of the most ridiculous pieces of medical folklore is the dictum: "Let baby cry, it's good for his lungs." In the late 1970's, research showed that babies who were left to cry had heart rates that reached worrisome levels, and lowered oxygen levels in their blood. When these infants' cries were soothed, their cardiovascular system rapidly returned to normal, showing how quickly babies recognize the status of well being on a physiologic level. When a baby's cries are not soothed, he remains in physiologic as well as psychological distress.

FALSE!

You are aware that those who use the CIO method don't just leave the kid to cry for a great length of timem right?  It starts in short invervals and gets expanded a little over time.  Like 5 mins at first, maybe working up to 10 mins max.  If they're changed, fed, not hurt and clean, there is no harm in letting them learn to self soothe.  Of course you still check on them.  Of course you still make sure they know you're there. Not a newborn, obviously.  I don't know anyone who has done it with a newborn.  Those I know started at about 6 months or older.

Sadly, there are those who don't use it properly, leave their kid to cry forever, and I believe it's those parents who give others the bad name about it.
