Im evacuated for hurricane issac and staying in my mothers home. She is out of the country at the moment, so it's just me, my kids and her service staff. I won't say my mother is rich because everyone has their own standards for that but she lives very luxuriously. I feel like I'm on vacation at a resort lol. So this morning I decided to go relax in the jacuzzi in her bathroom. As I was climbing out, I lost my footing and slipped. I knocked into this 7-8 ft tall, ornate mirror and it came crashing down!!! I dodged it just in time and it smashed into a million pieces on the floor! The cram was fine but the glass shattered. I'm siting there in my towell freaking out. I tried to lift the frame back up but it's really heavy so I called my moms assistant ( she had been watching my kids at the time) into the room to come help me.

I'm explaining what happened and I'm saying how sorry I am an that I will pay to have it replaced. And she just smirks and is like "oh hunny, don't worry about it. You couldn't afford to replace that thing anyways. Your mama won't be mad though, as long as no one got hurt, thats all she will be concerned about".

The whole comment about me not being able to replace it rubbed me the wrong way. I know she didn't mean anything by it but it just irked me. It's not like I'm poor or anything. Seriously, how much can something like that even cost???

Id say its pretty damned expensive.

Its also pretty rude to call service staff the "help'. Maybe she made a comment that rubbed you the wrong way because you have been calling her the 'help'.

Where did she call her the help i read it as she called her her mothers assistant

Maybe its an imported item.

I'm guessing it would cost somewhere between $300 to $500 to replace the mirror. If us even possible not all frames can be remounted

It can be quite expensive to have it replaced correctly with out ruining the actual frame its self. I would offfer to pay for it or atleas pay some of it bubt im sure with that size your mom will just be happy every one is okay, its really the frames that is worth the money honestly.

2 moms liked this

It's not "outdated", the large majority of wealthy people I know have bathrooms just like that. It gives it a Victorian look, to show the homes age and the wealth of those who live in it. Not everyone likes the modern look.

For someone with money she needs to remodel her outdated bathroom.

Bwahahaha....not expensive...Bwahahaha...its probably antique which UPS its value and the glass was probably more expensive than the frame! Mirrored glass today, that you and me can afford, doesn't even COMPARE to what was probably in that frame.

Get over the comment...you said yourself you felt like you were in a spa...sooo..no you can't afford it and she was trying to impart not to worry cause your Mom knows you can't afford it either!

The glass would probably only cost a few hundred dollars but to replace the whole mirror would depend on the mirror. I have a 52 inch mirror over my fireplace that I'm terrified to wipe down because it's irreplaceable to me. Something similar would cost around 3-5 grand. Her assistant probably looks at your mothers spending habits as frivolous and that was probably her point. But who knows. lol It's certainly pretty. If it's wood it could be old, or hand made or both. Or it could be a mass production from some overpriced store. Who knows. lol KWIM?

Wood

is that wood or pressed tin?

Is it possible to just replace the mirror? If so I would guess around 500 or less.My front door is individual diamond shaped glass each in their own frame ...75 each and the guy comes out.My mom has a goergeous real wrought iron glass topped picnic table in her back court yard. She dropped a heavy potted plant on it.For a nice thickness beveled edged replacement was about 250.My husband and bil used my suburban and got it for her.Saved 100 in delivery fees.

Not the poster you responded to and not giving my opinion on if I agree with her or not, just showing you where she says it. "so it's just me, my kids and her "help""
