1 mom liked this
I'm not a crazy lady who keeps her children if a sanitary bubble of hand sanitizer but I also don't try to expose them to germs either.

No, but when both my older kids had chicken pox when they were little, a friend of mine brought her daughters over, to expose them, and get it over with. I'd never heard of doing that before, but her girls did end up getting them, and that was that.

My mom was a nurse, and I was raised that when someone is sick in the house they stay in their room and rest. Just because I was sick, didn't mean my brother would necessarily get it too. I was raised to AVOID germ exposure.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't ever go out, because kids do need to be exposed to some germs. But when you know someone is sick, you don't purposely put a well child in the same room with a sick person.

I don't intentionally expose her to germs, but we don't run in fear of them either.  She's made it to 14 years.

Was this before the vaccine?

My mom did this too when I was a kid. But I think that is a little different. Before the vaccine came out it was best to get it young and get it over with.

Yes, it was. Now, with my youngest, he got the vaccine, and so far has never gotten them.

This actually came up because in another group, I was told not to worry about keeping separating my kids when sick because it is good for their immune systems to be exposed to germs, and they would probably get it anyways.
