Will someone please explain to me how people can't survive on a full time $9 an hour job? My mom managed 3 kids on roughly that and everyone else I know makes minimum wage and don't even get full time and they survive and are able to put money in savings. So what are you wasting your money on that you can't SURVIVE without?

I would just like to say sarcasm does not survive in the internet. I was. making fun of all the posters who are so flabbergasted at families surviving off of $12 an hour and not taking into account location and all that.
Here it is very possible to survive on $9 an hour and not need any type of assistance (this was before medical was required. I have no idea what that type of insurance costs around here) and be able to have some wants in life.
Cost of living has not changed around here much since I was teen since that was 5-6 years ago and my mom survived on 8.40 an hour with 3 teens. (I did have a job from the time I turned 13 so I bought my own clothes )

we can't survive on that - and we don't have a car payment or anything.

My rent is higher. My car payment is nearly that. My husbands truck payment is about half that. (All by 40 hour/week *$9monthly salary)

My mortgage is almost half what the monthly income would be. Especially after taxes. Not including a car payment, utilities, property taxes, food and gas. Our BASIC bills, excluding cell phone, internet, cable and "fun"money, is $1800 a month. $9 an hour full time would give us $1440 BEFORE tax. No.
