If you have your children say 'penis' and 'vagina'

Do you also have them say 'urine' and 'feces'? What about toilet? Vomit? Do you say "boo boo" or identify it as what it is?

Call me ignorant, but I don't see the point in having young children identify these things using their "proper" names.

I think saying the proper names can help lift the taboo that later makes sex something to hide and not discuss.

people should teach their children what ever words they feel comfortable using.

Ds has a penis. It's not a peepee or a wiener. It's a penis. Simple as that.

I'm of the mind that as long as they can identify them so that someone (a judge) knows what they're talking about, it's fine. Mine knows it's a penis, but calls it a pee-pee usually. He's able to point it out to someone if we were ever in a position (HEAVEN FORBID) that I needed him to.

No, I have my kids say cock and pussy and piss and shit and shittter and blowing chunks.

I totally agree with you, what's the point of using the correct terms?

He was taught the proper names of bodily functions right along with the proper names for body parts.

What he calls them these days is none of my business. I just know that he was taught the proper terms, and taught when it was appropriate to use the proper terms.  And was expected to use the proper terms when the situation/place called for it.
