I Am Allergic to Healthy Food

Okay not really.. but I feel like it :(.

I always try to eat as healthy as I can, and I've always found healthy eating at home and on the go to be pretty easy.

Well, sometime over the course of this year I have developed a severe latex allergy, that I just discovered a few months ago. At first I thought I had a nagging sinus infection that wouldn't quit.. but as it turns out it was just cross-related food allergies. Thanks to a 2 am visit to the ER after using a latex condom.. I learned about my latex allergy, and later on about the many cross-related food allergies that go along with it.

Here is a list of foods I am allergic to:

Banana Carrots
Kiwi Peach
Grape Celery
Papaya Tomato
Nectarine Avocado
Melon Potato
Soy Rye
Strawberry  Wheat
Plum Chestnut
Pineapple Apple

So does anyone have an ideas for healthy recipes or healthy snacks without any of those things?

Between cutting out favorite/go-to weeknight meals, and trying to rid my home and work environment completely of latex, I am getting pretty stressed out over this.

You wouldn't believe the amount of things that contain latex!

I appreciate any help or advice :).

Crap, I'm alergic to latex, too, but I can still eat those foods (I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't- they're all basically the only things I eat).. I have no advice, so here's a bump!

I would die. On a better note looks like you can still eat blueberries, that's good! Nuts are always a good snack to have.

Let Google be your best friend! Another great place to search for recipes is at http://allrecipes.com/ You  can put in ingredients that you have or you can exclude recipes with certain ingredients. I am allergic to dairy and was allergic to numerous other foods as a kid.

I have a latex allergy too, but can eat almost all of those. It depends on the severity of the allergy...I would try each as long as the reaction is very light.

Mmm.. blueberries. Thank goodness for those, I certainly love them :).

I swear I devoured a brick of cheese out of self-pity last week while venting to my SO about it. I still feel like I'm going to die. One of my clients brought me a box of tomatoes from her garden today and I was all set to stop at the store on the way home to get what I needed for tomato mozzerella salad and then remembered I couldn't eat them :(.

I'm sure I'll get used to it with time.

Hey, it could be worse, at least you didn't devour all the food on your list. I'm pretty sure I would have had to eat the food one last time. Can you really not eat anything on that list? Sounds like you have good taste in food, what are you going to eat now?

Honestly, I'm not sure what I am going to eat now. Lot's of cheese, I know that and blueberries I'm sure lol. I love to cook.. so I'm sure I'll be able to find new favorite recipes.

I think I will be able to eat them in moderation. My allergy to latex is pretty severe..Some people with the allergy feel like they have a yeast infection or something after having sex with a latex condom. My face, and hands swelled up within 10 minutes of using one and I went right to the ER.. but even after 2 shots there and a prescribed antihistamine I stayed pretty swollen for a couple days.

The foods won't do that to me, but my doctor believes they are the cause of my sinus issues. I have had what I believed to be a "sinus infection" since late April. It changes in severity.. but even at it's best I get a sinus headache daily around 1 or 2 and I have to take sinus medicine for it, or it will stay all evening. It's really been a miserable experience and dare I say -- not having to deal with it will be worth missing out on eating those foods.

After I rid my home of latex products, I am going to go through a testing period during which I will abstain from all of those foods, and then slowly introduce them back into my diet one at a time to see which ones cause the biggest issue for me.

Well, cheese is pretty great! I'm sure you'll do just fine and find new recipes like you said. I've never heard of somebody having such a large amount of food that they're allergic to! I'd say that's a pretty severe allergic reaction, it's good to hear you'd be able to introduce them back in one at a time. Hopefully in due time you'll be able to eat most, if not all, of those foods again! I would agree though with you, it's better to not feel like junk than to eat those foods. There's plenty of different foods! Good luck.
