In School, Does Your Child Say This? And, Do You Care?

If you have younger children, do they say the Pledge of Allegiance at school?  Would you be angry if they did?

DD just started Kindergarten last week.  She came home today & told me she learned The Pledge at school today.  I didn't know if most schools still said it due to the big, bad G-word?

My son does. He's a Kindergartener. It doesn't make me angry.

I honestly don't know if they do or not. It doesn't bother me one way or the other.

I expect it, along with morning and lunch time prayers.

Dd is in 1st grade and they say it. I used to say it in school as well. I don't have any issues with it.

I don't get angry about it. Once the kids reach high school age I let them make the decision to say it or not but if they choose not to they have to be respectful and sit quietly (as per state law and school policy). In elementary and middle school it is just one of those things they do daily. My high schooler went through a year where he didn't say it and then decided to say it the next year. I want them to develop their own ideas about the world, spirituality, how the Constiution applies to such things and patriotism.

At our public school the children stand up and the announcer says: 'I pledge' and the kids either continue to recite or not. If a family doesnt agree then their child doesnt have to recite but they are expected to stand out of respect.

I'm in high school and we say it every day. Why do people get so offended over the word God? It's not like it's the f-word or anything like that.

Also, we aren't required to say the pledge nor are we required to put our hand over our heart. Most of us do out of respect though.

Ds says it and his school has a moment of silence. I don't mind it.
