Autism Hate.

I see so much pure hate on here for autistic kids and their families. I can almost see the eyeroll when the word "Autism" is even mentioned. Why is that?
What is your perception of, or experiences with, Autism Spectrum Disorders?
Sure, just like IQ is now EQ.
Some doctors do ID or ED. Most do MR still. Notice they still call them offices of mental health and retardation?
Its still an actual medical term. I see it on charts daily.
I just think its silly that people take offense to something so stupid. Its only derragatory if you make it that way.

just a side note because I had a discussion with my kids dr about this last week. Retard is no longer the medical term used as of 2010 it is now intellectually delayed or I.D.
Luckily, I'm long past the point of caring what anyone else thinks about autism or how we handle it; it's just part of who my son is and we do the best we can. Period.
There are far worse situations to endure, like having a child on the bottom of an organ recipients' list.
After reading just the first page of replies I can sum it up in one word, ignorance.
Autism is not diagnosed because children have behavior problems, it is diagnosed due to certain developmental delays and social deficits. Check the DSM. Bad behavior is not a symptom.
