Today a local hero is being laid to rest. He was killed last week during his deployment in Afghanistan. He only spent 3days with his new wife before being deployed. Our streets are lined with people from the community all the way from the highway to the church his funeral is being held at and down to the funeral home. A good 5mile stretch. He is being buried with full military honors. Thank you to all the men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom! Even for the ungrateful asses that is the westboro baptist church. Yep they are here too.

RIP PFC Townsend.

Sad, but I always love to see the pictures of the community blocking the view of the protesting Westboro baptist church from the family. Before my enlistment was up I got the honor of lining the street to the gate of the base a fallen soldier came home to and saluting as he and his family drie past. It was a good sight to see all the uniforms and veterans lined up. Then the motorcycle club that shows up to escort picking up and leading them once they got off base.

That is sad. But it doesn't make our country any less screwed up.

I come from a military fam (dad & brother both army & dad was navy too). Stories like this break my heart. If you go to the viewing or funeral, OP, & can get to his parents/wife/any member of his family, please thank them for his sacrifice for me.

Since you metioned the motorcycle club, I'm going to share this with you. They were there. As his casket came past I amost cried, but held tight knowing his family was right behind, but when the motorcycles came through I couldnt hold it back. I bawled. For more than one reason.

My dad was a Harley man until last year. He lead "his pack" along with a young man I consider my brother. Now I say until last year BC he passed away suddenly. At his funeral the police department escorted a club of over 100 bikers to my dads funeral from a bar (lol) in a town 15 minutes away. You could hear them coming and it was awesome. This man who always lead with my dad...lead them that day, but stayed to the right and left my dads spot open. It was an amazing feeling to see all of them and how as the casket drove by after the service was.done and we were headed to the burial site they turned their Throttles and let the bikes roar until he passed by.

As the bikes went by following this soldier I couldnt help but think back to that selfishly and be a little bit sad that my dad was unable to get on his bike and ride to show his respect and support of this fallen soldier. I think the way they saluted my dad with their bikes should happen for all fallen soldiers.

Thank you for your service for our beautiful country!

Sorry I rambled.

Oh my God.  I am so sad now after I read that.  He is a true hero and I am so sorry to hear yet another hero of ours is gone.
