Define "pre-existing condition" ... mental illness/insurance

I have bipolar and haven't been treated for it in over a year (got pregnant, been nursing... no antipsychotics for me). I am at a point now where I'm almost so in need of medication that I will give up nursing, even though I really don't want to.

Anyway, I'm insurance shopping. Most say they don't cover mental health, but also say that if it's a physician then they will cover it... so maybe they mean they'll cover a psychiatrist but not a psychologist/therapy? The sales reps have no idea. Brilliant.

From what I understand, I can only be denied for a preexisting condition if I have been treated for it in the last either 3 months or year. Not sure which. I have tried to find the answer on my own but to be honest I get really frustrated and give up. Between reading endless amounts of stuff and taking care of the baby... I just can't. I feel like I'm insane.
