kolaches..are they a southern thing or is dh just weird?
Anyways, dh grew up in Kansas, and he'd never heard of a kolache nor had one until last year. Mil had never had obe either.
So, when I woke up with this craving, dh just didn't understand. I've met a few relatives of his and none have ever had one. So I'm curious, is it a Texas thing (ive noticed there are more kolache places in Houston where I grew up as opposed to dfw), or is he just freakin weird?
I know they originated else where, but I guess what I was asking if they were more popular I guess in the south, or Texas for that matter. I would of referred to them as a pastry, but being from Houston, we just called them kolaches. Whether or not it was filled with meat, fruit or eggs, if its soft sweet bread with filling it was a kolache. Pastries are more flaky, at least that's how we distinguish them...
