Who's name goes first? The fathers or the mothers? Why? Does it matter?
Moms last name is. Hawkins
and
Dad's is Smith...
Would the last name be Hawkins-Smith or Smith-Hawkins?

I put my last name first. I've been told I've done it backwards. I really have no idea.

Some people choose to give the mothers surname as a middle name and dad surname as the last name.
Hyphen on kids is odd.

My oldest daughter's last name is hyphenated -- her father's first, then mine. I was only 18 when I had her and I did it to be fair to him. My other daughter with him has my last name, it is NOT hyphenated....long story there lol.

I never changed my last name to my husbands. Why should I change my identity? My kids all have my last name, also. Hyphenating wasn't an option. We all know they end up calling them the last hyphenated name anyway.

Fathers then mothers in my culture.
Or you could be really screwed up like my Mom and change your kids name 3 times before they graduate high school.
