My pledge of allegience confession...

Posted by   + Show Post
My dds school did the pledge of allegience to the flag this morning. I had a student pulled aside to do frog books but her and i went to join the class. The teacher said it with the students and when it got to "under god" part she was silent and the whole class of kindergarteners yelled under god. I must admit i had a big smile on my face!!

When did they change it to THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? Sorry that wasn't supposed to be caps lol. Serious question though.

Quoting Anonymous:

The original Pledge of Allegiance

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands- one nation indivisible-with liberty and justice for all."

In June of 1954 an amendment was made to add the words "under God".

I am teaching my son the original pledge and have requested that his teachers not ask him to say what is now the pledge. :D

It is disrespectful to not stand.

Nobody said you had to say it or say the word God.

Amazing how I am surrounded by so many different types of people, religions, cultures yet they all manage to stand & show respect for the country they live in.  For those that died fighting for this country; past & present.

I know quite a few who don't say "God" yet are able to stand w/respect.  I know quite a few who are silent yet are able to stand & show their respect.

What a concept.

Quoting deadlights86:

So Jehovah witnesses are disrespectful? They don't say the pledge. We don't believe in god in my house why should they have to say under god? Our country was founded on freedoms of religion not freedom of god.

Quoting Susan0805:

No to your country! I live on base and the anthem plays everyday. I dont care if im in my back yard, out of respect i act appropriately.

Quoting Anonymous:

To who? The empty desks in my room?

Quoting Susan0805:

That's disrespectful imo.

Quoting Anonymous:

Her right not to say it. I grade papers while the pledge goes on. Of course I have no kids in my SPED room yet. :P

I dont say "under god", but my kids do. That's the way they were taught, and I was taught the same way. I don't correct them, or tell them the "right or wrong" way to do it, because if I do, and they don't say it, someone somewhere is going to throw a hissy fit. They can do what I did, make the decision when they're older.

Teach them before they understand what it means and hopefully they conform later? By third grade I would stand for it but would not say it.

Quoting Anonymous:

Many don't understand WHY the pledge is said at that age.

Quoting Susan0805:

You think 5 years are to young to understand the concept of a pledge?

Quoting AnnieMcD:

I don't understand. Were you smiling because a group of children too young to understand what they're pledging shouted a catch phrase that was added into the pledge (against the wishes of the man who wrote it) in order to prove our "Godliness" to other countries? Or were you smiling because the teacher chose to excercise her right not to pledge allegiance to a God she may or may not believe in?

I would not be offended or upset about HER right not to say it. The school tried to suspend my daughter for a week for leaving the classroom during the pledge in which she finds to be wrong and misrespresented. I stand behind my daughters rights not to be present during the pledge and so did the Lawyers who filed a suit against the school who decided what she did was respectful to those who wanted to stay and say it.

I dont say the under god part, but I place my hand over my heart, I make my son take off any hats, ect ect ect. Some people just don't believe in god, Its not disrespectful, its a choice...

That's disrespectful imo.
