Depo Shot/OB Doctor

The doctor at the OBGYN office I go to told me that if I miss getting my bc shot, I HAVE to pay for a pregnancy test. I'm not even currently sexually active because I'm still bleeding from when I gave birth on July 24th! Anyway, I want to know that if your OB office does this if you take depo.

I believe that is what they all do.

Yes they require a pregnancy test before administering a missed shot.

What if you discuss stopping it and switching to a different method?

However, the test is part of the visit and billed to insurance. If you don't have insurance, you have to pay for the test, obviously. It's a liability thing, if you were pregnant the shot can harm the fetus or make you miscarry.

Yeah, they do that because the shot can cause birth deffects if you are pregnant. It's a liability issue. I had the same thing when I was on DEPO probably 15 years ago. I had to do 2 tests 2 weeks apart before they would give me the shot, and they asked me to abstain during that time frame (not that I was active at all- I was single)

They'll still require a test before beginning another form. Missing a shot leaves you unprotected from pregnancy. Even if you say you aren't active, they'll test you bc MANY women lie.
