The sky is blue, it is not gray or any other color, its blue.

The sky appears blue because the particles the sun
light travels through when it enters the atmosphere
act like a prism. The "prism" seperates out the colors
so that what you see is blue. It's the same reason
why you see a more rainbow-like sky during sunrise
& sunset -- just the sunlight is at a different angle when entering the atmosphere.
