Big Bird

The Annenberg Foundation owns PBS and FactCheck.org and has given Obama quite a bit of money and he sat on their board at one time too.  I find that to be very interesting being very liberal and progressive just like Obama is. Does anyone else find any irony in any of this besides me? Does anyone know anything else about this with unbiased sources?

http://www.factcheck.org/about/

Our Mission

We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.

FactCheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The APPC was established by publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg to create a community of scholars within the University of Pennsylvania that would address public policy issues at the local, state and federal levels.

Our Funding

Prior to fiscal 2010, we were supported entirely by three sources: funds from the APPC’s own resources (specifically an endowment created in 1993 by the Annenberg Foundation at the direction of the late Walter Annenberg, and a 1995 grant by the Annenberg Foundation to fund APPC’s Washington, D.C., base); additional funds from the Annenberg Foundation; and grants from the Flora Family Foundation. We do not seek and have never accepted, directly or indirectly, any funds from corporations, unions, partisan organizations or advocacy groups.

In 2010, we began accepting donations from individual members of the public for the first time, responding to many unsolicited offers of support from our subscribers. We launched our first public appeal for donations in April 2010.

At that time we also decided to disclose our finances in greater detail, so that our readers may judge for themselves whether or not any of those individual donations could influence us.

Our policy is to disclose the identity of any individual donor giving $1,000 or more. We also disclose the total amount, average amount and number of individual donations.

Note: In addition to the sums reported here, FactCheck.org receives in-kind support from the Annenberg Public Policy Center including office space, utilities and technical support from APPC staff, and salary for one election-year staff employee. We do not attempt to assign a dollar value to these in-kind services, which are funded from the APPC’s own resources.

What is there to find irony in? The man had a life long before he was a politician and a presidential candidate. He hasn't donated or served on the board in many years.

FactCheck hasn't been particularly easy on Obama or any of the Democrats so I'm not sure why you think they are liberal.

Because the Annenberg Foundation owns FactCheck.org

I just know I am sick of the big bird flipping people off. I understand why it was made but I think it is in bad taste.

Romney is drawing at straws here...really!

Really?  I think Obama is.  I think trying to use Big Bird to get yourself elected another term is about the saddest thing I've ever seen.

I really don't see the big problem with getting rid off big bird. I mean if we can afford it okay. But look how much in debt we are. This should be very, very far down on the totum pole.

I have done a bit of preliminary research... from what I see, the Annenberg Foundation contributes to PBS, and factcheck.org is run y the same foundation.

Back when Obama was still rising in the ranks, he worked with a subsidiary of the Annenberg Foundation on a project in an inner city school of Chicago. Seems like the project failed.

Factcheck, from what I can tell, was started in 2005, and is connected to the same foundation. Might be a coincidence, might be a weak link. But while supposedly impartial, factcheck does seem to have leftist leanings.

Only source of funding to Obama I can see right away is the project in Chicago.

Curious though.

It doesn't surprise me. Most news media is either liberal or owned by jews. They make you think they're non partisan but that's the whole gimmick to get you to watch so you believe their pc bullshit.

I agree with most of the mainstream media being liberal, but I don't like what you have to say about the Jews, I happen to be Jewish and I'm not a liberal, but a Conservative Republican, what does that have to do with anything? sheesh!

Because they're flaming progressive liberals and since Obama is making such a big deal of Big Bird, I thought I'd mention this and hope Romney brings it up to and his past association with bill Ayers and The Annenberg Foundation.

Since when is PBS or FC flaming liberals? I watched both conventions on PBS and they really flamed the Democratic party and their speakers while gushing about the Republicans. FC is fact checkers. They check things said in speeches and debates. Its all backed up by... facts that come from all sources. Just because one party or candidate gets caught in more lies doesn't make them partisan.
