Confession: I am outraged I have to report for jury duty

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

A. I will be in the third trimester by then. Being hugely pregnant is NOT a viable excuse.

B. I have a toddler. They don't care about that. It is not permitted to take kids with you to the courthouse.

C. If they make me go BACK in a few months, I'll be nursing a newborn. Breastfeeding is not a viable excuse either. I DO NOT pump! I am a SAHM so I do not need to pump (pumping sucks - anyone who does that regularly gets hugs from me!)

D. My friend who had catastrophic injuries after falling from a great height about a year ago has been called to serve. SHE HAS A FUCKING BACK BRACE and is having surgery on her back *again.* She barely can do anything at this point. O.0 I think anyone with a BACK BRACE who cannot sit for long periods whatsoever should be automatically excused without having to show up. She has a long ass drive to get there.

I think anyone with painful disabilities/long-term injuries should not have to show up. Anyone with under school age kids shouldn't have to serve. Any woman/SAHDad  who has an infant shouldn't have to serve!

FML.

If they do not automatically excuse me due to being pregnant I will force the issue by somehow letting it be known that I am a filthy dirty Canadian socialist that believes in same-sex marriage rights, universal health care, taking care of poor people, free college education and I dunno...I'll come up with something offensive that will make them think I am too biased.

If I didn't have small kids/fetus I would serve, seriously.

You can write and ask for a deferment explaining your situation

If you say you do not have child care they should excuse you. If not say you're pro death penalty and have been or know someone close who has been a victim of the accused's crime. Or claim you're biased against the accused (anything will work, race, religion, orientation, social status, employment)

Either get a doctors note or when they interview you, give ridiculous answers, or say you know the person on trial.

I'm not tring to be rude here, but pregnancy isn't a reason to be excused from doing your civic duty to this country.  I'm sure it's incredibly inconvenient, but it was also really inconvenient to all of our forefathers to make this country and justice system what it is.  It's also really inconvenient that our soldiers have to sacrifice their lives to continue to keep it the great country it is.  Do your duty, find a babysitter and show up.  They will probably excuse you anyways.

You're only allowed one. I used mine up because they wanted me to serve when DS was 11 months old and I was still nursing him.

I am screwed.

Not where I live. I have served before and they call names. If you are not at the court house that day and time. They issue warrants.

Quoting Katenemsmom:

Just don't show. They only come after you if you are selected for a trial and then are a no show.

DH and I have never been called to do this.

Quoting Anonymous:

Tell them you are a racist and they will dismiss you. 3 people did that when my mom went for jury duty.
