Confession: I am outraged I have to report for jury duty

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

A. I will be in the third trimester by then. Being hugely pregnant is NOT a viable excuse.

B. I have a toddler. They don't care about that. It is not permitted to take kids with you to the courthouse.

C. If they make me go BACK in a few months, I'll be nursing a newborn. Breastfeeding is not a viable excuse either. I DO NOT pump! I am a SAHM so I do not need to pump (pumping sucks - anyone who does that regularly gets hugs from me!)

D. My friend who had catastrophic injuries after falling from a great height about a year ago has been called to serve. SHE HAS A FUCKING BACK BRACE and is having surgery on her back *again.* She barely can do anything at this point. O.0 I think anyone with a BACK BRACE who cannot sit for long periods whatsoever should be automatically excused without having to show up. She has a long ass drive to get there.

I think anyone with painful disabilities/long-term injuries should not have to show up. Anyone with under school age kids shouldn't have to serve. Any woman/SAHDad  who has an infant shouldn't have to serve!

FML.

If they do not automatically excuse me due to being pregnant I will force the issue by somehow letting it be known that I am a filthy dirty Canadian socialist that believes in same-sex marriage rights, universal health care, taking care of poor people, free college education and I dunno...I'll come up with something offensive that will make them think I am too biased.

If I didn't have small kids/fetus I would serve, seriously.

Dont fight it too much. They like to put people that do not want to be there on juries. Too many people are law and order buffs and are way to excited to be there and think they know everything, and they tend to taint a jury.

Most people who show up, don't get picked.  Trust me, they don't want a pregnant woman on the jury-if you go into labor, they have to use a replacement.  They don't want that.  Get a babysitter for the one day, go down, show the lawyers and judges you're pregnant and you'll very likely be excused.  If not, it's easy to get out of.  Say that you believe all cops are prejudiced and are simply trying to frame the people on trial-or some such nonsense (they don't care about your political affiliations, so don't try that tact.)

Get a note from your dr. They legally have to accept it. Same with your friend.

Where are you?  My friend was selected for the panel and her name got called.  The judge took one look at her as she was pregnant and said to the lawyers that he felt she should be excused.  Both lawyers agreed and she was excused.

Dh will never get called again. His diabetes excuses him.

Like I said, pregnancy is not an excuse to get out of showing up. I asked the OB and he said NO. :(

My friend already got one deferrment (they wanted her right after her accident lol!) You only get one deferrment here. We are both boned.

It is so dumb.

I don't think that would excuse him here. :/
