SO to jury duty

When I first moved to NC, I got selected to serve on a 1st degree murder trial (the death penalty was not on the table) - the case took over 8 weeks with us finally finding the defendent guilty of 2nd degree murder and posession of a firearm by a felon.  he was sentenced to 35 years.  the trial was so emotionally draining but it was very eye opening to see how other people live (the defendent as well as all of his "character" witnessess were prior or current criminals, some of them serving long sentences for drug and weapons charges - I mean these were young men in their 20's serving 20-25 year sentences).  it was an experience and I cried when we found him guilty - not because I did not think he was but because his wife and mother were in the courthouse and I could see their pain as well as the pain of the victims mom....
