Locking your toddler in his/her room?

Posted by   + Show Post

I got this from another group.

If your almost 2 year old could climb out of his crib, and get out of the baby gates at night, is it ok to just lock him/her in their room, even with a baby monitor inside of their room?

I don't do this, my kids usually stay in their beds at night, so I don't have this problem yet.

We bought a baby gate that screws into the door frame. It is pretty tall. So, we just use that.

That is a great way to cause emotional problems! Why not a baby gate?

No, I don't think it is ok to lock them in their room. What if a fire or something happened and they could get out but not if you locked the door. It would just seem to scary to me. I always woke up the minute I heard one of my children at night so I never had a reason to lock the door. Either way, it scares me. I couldn't do it.
