LOL. He's not an influential part of MY American History, so I don't care to find out who he is. And to be honest, I do and have listened to all types of music. He just obvioulsy isn't that important, or interesting for me to learn about.

Because different bands and artists came around at different times. Yes, it does have a lot to do with what kind of genres you listen to but when bands/artists become big, has a lot to do with people of certain age groups knowing who they are.

If you're 21, that means you probably weren't around much to know how big he was. He might have been big in only that genre, I doubt he is the type that has crosses over, or collaborated with big artists in other genres during that time. Hence, the reason I don't know him.

I know about him because my parents listen to him so I've been listening to his music since birth. His music is still played on the radio every day, used in movies, all that jazz. He's one of those "big artists" that I'm sure plenty of other artists would kill to collaborate with.
