When I see a news story about something bad happening especially to a child I really worry about my 11 yo DD. I watch Criminal Minds and Law & Order which does not help. After reading about Jessica Ridgeway I wouldn't even let my daughter take out the garbage by herself. I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. Does anyone else do this?
Nope. I was at the park for an hour today and sat on a bench reading. My kids are 6 and 9. I know really crappy stuff can happen, but I also no that is very unlikely to happen. I don't want to live in fear. (((HUGS)))
Not anymore.
Teach your children to be responsible and to walk with authority. Teach them not to be afraid and you'll gain much from that lesson as well.
We can't control the world. We can only control our reaction to it.
I am studying introduction to law enforcement and then it's off to KLETC!
You are right. I never thought of it as living in fear but that is exactly what it is.
I'm mostly paranoid about parking lots. I have an intense fear of dd getting run down by a car. She's 9 and I embarass her often by keeping a hold on her at all times.

Yes I use to. I stopped watching crime shows and took a break from the news. It helped..
I think that is what I need to start doing.
