Effective January 1st, if nothing is done to fix it..we reach our fiscal cliff and taxes on everyone goes up..tax credits for 2013 will be smaller and becuae of changes to the payroll tax and a raise in social security payments, paychecks will be smaller by about 40-70 range.

I think in 2008 or so? Obama extended it once.

They are calling it a hike. And many people probably forgot about it. I know I did and just got use to my paycheck. I will be fine but I know many people wont. Especially with how much everything costs.
Quoting Crazy-Steph:
It's not really a hike, though. People should have known it was temporary.

For a middle class family earning about 40k it would be a 2000 dollar tax hike

My dh gets paid once a month so we would be ok. He also gets VA disability from serving overseas and that's all tax free.
