Surely Obama is not going to require this.....? ****UPDATED****

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Someone said that Obamacare is going to require you to buy insurance or pay a fine?

HUH? This has got to be a rumor?

What do you do if you can't aford to buy it?  My dh only makes 38,000 a year and I am a SAHM and going to work is out of the question.

UPDATE:

First, thanks everyone for responding. THis is very educational.

2nd, I don't know if this is a rumor or not, but I heard that Denny's restaurant is going to cut hours of people because of the tax?!? Here is the link:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2233221/Dennys-charge-5-Obamacare-surcharge-cut-employee-hours-deal-cost-legislation.html

In the article (kinda towards the end) the Denny's guy said they would have to pay $5000 an employee per year for insurance?????????????? Surely that is NOT TRUE? $5000 a year per person for health insurance? So ifyou have 50 employees then you have to pay like $250,000 a year more for insurance? Is this true? Where is the money going to come from if this is true?

I hope to hell some of the assholes dont make the same rude remarks they made to me asking why I am paying for a house, a car, and insurance for it instead of health care......

Quoting Anonymous:

Just because they make it available doesn't mean it'll be affordable. I have epilepsy and I got approved for insurance..at $1231 a month. Seriously? Who can afford that? My mortgage isn't even half that.. :(

Quoting RaynesMommy07:

I voted for him. No one can complain they don't have insurance. If Obamacare was enforced my mom would probably be Alive. NO insurance company would touch her due to pre-existing conditions. They'll be stipulations to it, but I think it'll be good for this country. And last I looked Australlia and Europe weren't socialist countries and they have this healthcare system.

That is exactly right. You husbands employer will be required to supply you with reasonably priced insurance.

But my husband works for my dad and I know for a fact they cannot afford to pay for insurance.

Does he have over 50 employees?

Actually I just researched it and under 25 employs won't be affected and may find tax relief.

But Thank you for you expertise.

Quoting Lizard_Lina:

Don't get ahead of yourself. You still have to buy insurance, affordable or not, and you still have to pay a fine if you don't have insurance, and if you get a tax return and haven't paid your fine it will be taken from your return. The only thing this stipulation does is keep small run business from tanking under healthcare expenses.

Quoting Grumpylilpixy:

If that is the case I may start liking omObama because my husband's job employs like 7 people. Not a big company but a good company and profitable company. I really hope this is true.

Quoting thetrollcat:

this is not particularly TRUE. If the business doesnt fit under the 50 plus workers

I am a friend, a wife,a daughter but the best title I have by far is Mother .

The bush tax cuts expire for 2013, and I never heard Obama utter he was going to extend them, and yea that affects those of us under 250,000

Quoting RaynesMommy07:

Obama is only raising taxes on those that make AT LEAST $250,000 year. I think the majority will be safe and he's not cutting off Medicaid. This is mainly to protect employees. So, there employers will have to have insurance at affordable prices. Low income ppl need not worry. At all.

Quoting Anonymous:

And it's about to get worse.     I'm worried how I'm going to pay taxes this year (nowhere NEAR the 250K "rich person" level) - I can't imagine what else we'll have to give up to pay our 2013 taxes.    And the worst doesn't kick in until 2018.

Quoting Anonymous:

because a few years ago things were different, ok? You think I choosed to lose my job and my husband as well? Do you think I choosed for him only finding this job that pays so less? No of course not. But it pays the bills. But its not enough to pay a health insurance. If I could choose I would like him to make triple that amount again and it would be all good. But look around you, the economy isnt what it used to be.

Quoting Anonymous:

Who chose to have 2 kids on 17K/year? Did.the.government drop them off on your doorstep? Why should the government pay out to take care of your poor choices?

Quoting Anonymous:

yes thats what it is sadly. We dont have insurance because we can not affort it. With my hysband only makng about 17 000 a year and 2 kids its impossible. Now we goona get a penalty for that? I dont even know how we could pay that either. It just seems to me that the hard working people get punished. We dont have any PA we dont earn lots of monay but we make it work and my husband works hard. Thats what you get I guess :( I guess it would be easyier to just quit the job and go on PA and medicare... I am sure that what a lot of people gonna do.

You're in dream land honey! Go look it up there is a penalty tax.. 4 companies in my city have already closed since election because they can't afford obamacare.. That's over 300 ppl that Obama is "for" that lost their Income because of him

Quoting Anonymous:

No...this is not correct.

Insurance companies are required to take people with pre-existing conditions and the only fine I know of is if companies offshore American jobs to China.

Obama is for the people.
