My poor fiancé and a question about hotels

He had to go out of town for work and his plane didn't land till 11pm and he made reservations at a hotel (Sheraton) and told them his plane doesn't land till 11.

Well he gets there last night and they had overbooked the hotel and didn't have a room for him, he was understandably pissed but luckily the 4 points Sheraton across the street had room.

So my question. Can they do that and how often do they do that? I can't imagine making a reservation for a hotel room and finding out they gave your room away especially when you need to be up in 7 hours to get to the office.

If he's there for two days they should have given him a night free...


DH is an elite member with Hilton and Marriott though..so they have incentive not to piss him off. Lol

if the company booked it- then it should be with the company card- therefore the room still should have been there. my hubby just had to go out of town this past monday, plane was late leaving here, then stuck at dallas for over three hrs- so they didn't get to the hotel til a little after midnight. room still there

Usually if a hotel over sells they will first find rooms elsewhere for people who booked third party. Then they will work on making accommodations for guests who booked thru them as they arrive. Usually they take care of the first night. He should check with the original hotel, they should pay the first night and offer him breakfast or a dining credit for within the hotel

It sure wasnt. Like I said he lucked out and the 4 points across the street had room, otherwise he would've been looking for another place.

His card WAS reserved with a card. A company credit card I believe and they still gave his room away.

Which is great for your husband, but had that hotel been over booked his room would NOT have been available. They would have relocated him to a different hotel upon arrival UNLESS he is a VIP member to their brand.

They can and they pay for the other room.  I ran the front office at a Hilton in Branson and we had that problem a couple of times.

No, he drove over there and asked. There is a chance they told them to be expecting him I don't know that but he went over there and was bitching about what happened and the lady gave him some sort of a discount though I have no clue what it was

And as I said before its a completely different situation on a sold/over sold night! They don't just give your room away after a certain time... Unless they are over booked, then they will relocate you to a hotel with vacancies, they call and handle the arrangements... And usually the hotel you booked with will pay for your first night
