You're not supposed to have a Christmas tree if You're Christian

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Jeremiah 10: 1-5 does talk about cutting down a tree and decorating it.
God and Idols
1 Hear what the LORD says to you, O house of Israel. 2 This is what the LORD says:
  "Do not learn the ways of the nations
  or be terrified by signs in the sky,
  though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
  they cut a tree out of the forest,
  and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
  they fasten it with hammer and nails
  so it will not totter.

5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
  their idols cannot speak;
  they must be carried
  because they cannot walk.
  Do not fear them;
  they can do no harm
  nor can they do any good."

Christmas began as Winter Solstice and Christians changed the name. I practiced the Christmas tradition of big dinner, lit tree and gifts as a Christian. Now as an Agnostic, I still practice the tradition.

WRONG, you are not supposed to worship or idolize a Christmas tree if you are Christian.

2 moms liked this

The passage is talking about cutting trees and doing woodwork to build things, and then making it ornamental. It's referencing people who worship affluence and things over God.  It's not talking about a Christmas tree!!

This is the old testament.  There was no Christ yet.  Therefore there was no Christmas.  Therefore no Christmas trees!

Last year someone (a very popular Christian on here) told me they got around the Christmas tree rule by buying a fake tree. Like you're not supposed to cut one down and bring it in your house or whatever, and the fake tree creates a loophole.

Seeing as how we aren't worshiping the Christmas tree, it isn't an idol so this does not apply. For all intents and purposes, a cross is an idol. I bet most Christians own at least one, why don't you attack that?

Christmas is a Christianized version of the Pagan Yule. When Constantine initially tried to merge the two, he wanted the Pagans to be able to have their festivals without persecution, so they slapped a Christianized name on all Pagan festivals so that the Pagans could still celebrate, and the new Christians got some sweet holidays out of it. There's much more to it, of course, but I don't want Christian heads to explode.
