This is really bugging me and I will probably get some negative responses but oh well. I can't believe people are whining and complaining about having to work either Thanksgiving or the big sales that day and the next day. Even to the point of threatening to strike. Really? I understand that people are upset about not spending time with their families on the holiday. BUT you knew this was going to happen when you accepted the job working retail. Working black Friday is a requirement. There are so many people out there that wants a job but can't get one, just be happy that you have one. Suck it up and work the day no one wants to hear you complain about it.  IF it is that big of a deal to you then you shouldn't have taken the job in the first place!

And before people attack me I am a Walmart Employee and I will be working Thanksgiving night in to Friday morning and comming back later Friday for another shift.

what gets me is they think they are irreplaceable. no, walmart will replace people, because they do not care if you need better wages, they care about making money and will hire the first 50 people on the top of their list of applicants. i'm a manager and this is what we were told. anyone who strikes is out of a job

Walmart isnt Union, so striking is dumb. Walmart will just fire them all, and will have people lined up around the block ready to replace them.

I didn't read the article. Is it really about having to work the holidays or is it about low wages?

if they strike then evidently they didn't need the job.

OP, you have my deepest sympathies for having to work on Thanksgiving and on Black Friday, Been there, done that, never again LOL.

Exactly I am happy to have a job.  Is it something I look forward to every year no.  But it is a requirement from my job.  Plus time and a half and 3rd shift wages for working I am making a lot of money. Can't complain.  Its the one weekend a year that they will give ups about as much hours as we want to work without complaint.  The only thng that sucks is that the next pay check is the holiday pay plus the bonus so a lot gets taken out in taxes.

I worked in a 24/7 restaurant and when we would hire people we would tell that some holidays were mandatory to work. They would agree, but every holiday they would bitch and whine about having to work.
It'll never end. There will always be the people bitching about having to work.
