TO all the Walmart Employees Threatening to Strike

This is really bugging me and I will probably get some negative responses but oh well. I can't believe people are whining and complaining about having to work either Thanksgiving or the big sales that day and the next day. Even to the point of threatening to strike. Really? I understand that people are upset about not spending time with their families on the holiday. BUT you knew this was going to happen when you accepted the job working retail. Working black Friday is a requirement. There are so many people out there that wants a job but can't get one, just be happy that you have one. Suck it up and work the day no one wants to hear you complain about it.  IF it is that big of a deal to you then you shouldn't have taken the job in the first place!

And before people attack me I am a Walmart Employee and I will be working Thanksgiving night in to Friday morning and comming back later Friday for another shift.

I can understand being annoyed but to strike is silly IMO. When I worked as a CNA I had to work holidays all the time

The last company that went on strike didn't have a job to come back to. So think twice in this economy before you buck up and strike.

Its not to bad I work 730pm to 1 am.  But it is going to be crazy and kinda fun

Quoting Sassy01:

if they strike then evidently they didn't need the job.

OP, you have my deepest sympathies for having to work on Thanksgiving and on Black Friday, Been there, done that, never again LOL.

I can't even read this post. I can't believe people who are demanding better treatment are called whiners and complainers. People take advantage of you a little at a time so it's not as noticeable. At some point you have to stand up for yourself and others.

I know the manager of our Walmart. She's been told to start going through applications and find at least 75 people to interview ASAP if any employees walk out. The company is considering them as quiting if they do it. It's ignorant to throw away a job in this economy.

Amen to that. The only scheduled days off was the days I was scheduled off. IF Christmas was scheduled. IT was scheduled. LOL  I remember those days.

While they are striking now, and will pry be striking more on Black Friday, the strike is really about low wages and rising insurance costs. Premiums are expected to go up 8 to 36% according to one story I read. One guy had been there for three years, and talked about how he was only making $8 and some change per hour.

Quoting Anonymous:

I didn't read the article. Is it really about having to work the holidays or is it about low wages?

I don't understand why Walmart NEEDS to be open on Thanksgiving in the first place.

Sorry, I also feel it is ridiculous to push Black Friday onto Thursday.

How I have understood it is that historically Thanksgiving Day most stores are closed.  The problem is not the Open at Midnight for Black Friday - it's the fact that now stores will be opening at 8 or 9, which means if you are used to getting T day off you no longer get that option.
